6 Lynton Avenue

Finchley

London N12 9JH

18 th December 2003

Dear Mr Bragg,

This email concerns the problem of the discovery of the removal of a tree from Lynton Avenue in November and, as was subsequently discovered, a proposed crossover opposite number 2 Lynton Avenue

After the surreptitious removal of the tree, and suspecting that a crossover was involved, I sent an email to Colin Friend to try to find out why the tree was removed. Unfortunately Mr Friend has not replied to my email on the subject of the crossover.

Today men from the council came to put a crossover opposite number 2 Lynton Avenue

A resident who often parks his car in this space was parked in front of the area where they wanted to put it. He refused to move it.

The residents will endeavour try to keep this space blocked, until something has been agreed, between the council and the residents.

He discussed the situation with the workmen, who got in touch with their supervisor at the council. This gentlemen would not speak to the resident

We found out the following

The supervisors name is RAJ GOUTAM of the Highways section

He works in Barnet House at Whetstone

His council phone number is 8359 4391

His mobile number is 079 57 91 71 79

It appears that the Council job number is LA/TH031378

Date of order is 2/12/03

Although a crossover would not normally be a matter of controversy, it has in this case caused an enormous amount of anger for 2 reasons:

1) because, as you will already be aware, of the lack of parking space in Lynton Avenue for the residents, and the fact that parking space for the residents will be lost.

2) because the resident of Mayfield Avenue who has requested the crossover has a rear access road adjacent to the proposed crossover giving easy access to his back garden and so does not need side access.

We would like to ask:

1) Why is this crossover is being permitted when it will cause problems for the residents of Lynton Avenue, and when it is unnecessary?

2) Why was the tree removed without consultation with the residents?

3) Why was the effect on parking in Lynton Avenue not taken into account?

4) Why have we have received no reply on this topic?

To avoid further friction between council workers and residents, we would be grateful if you to could re-examine this matter as soon as possible and reconsider the consent given for this.

Thank you for your attention

Yours Faithfully,

Philip Bowman
